Notes on Wharton's Age of Innocence This title appeared in March 1943 with a spring 1943 ML list both at the end of the volume and inside the jacket (291 titles; includes Du Maurier, Rebecca but not Shakespeare). Barry Neavill points out that "the "First Modern Library Edition" statement was retained on the second printing (spring 1944) but this can be distinguished from the first printing because the ML lists are different. I believe reports of a 1942 first with 284 titles are mistaken."
